Athlete Overtraining Syndrome is a frustrating condition which leaves athletes fatigued, with irregular sleep, altered mood, impaired athletic performance and poor recovery. At Seattle Performance Medicine we have extensive knowledge and experience identifying objective markers of Overtraining Syndrome and assisting athletes of all levels in a process of regeneration, stabilization and eventual competitive performance conditioning.
Both male and female athletes are susceptable to Overtraining Syndrome and it can affect both elite athletes and amateur competitive athletes alike. There are many reasons that athletes develop Overtraining Syndrome and some of the most common include stress overload due to insufficient nutritional support of workouts, unpredictable major life stressors, inadequate recovery and underlying undetected and untreated medical or physiologic conditions such as hypothyroidism and other diseases. When there are strong underlying factors, recovery can begin to take place as soon as these issues are identified and resolved.
We utilize a series of objective assessments, a specific periodized medical training plan and nutritional support to promote regeneration of the neuroendocrine response to exercise. This protocol retrains the stress adaptation response and allows athletes to eventually return to a greater competitive performance capacity.
