Seattle Performance Medicine provides sports performance evaluation and guidance. We are first and foremost a medical facility and we place health and safety above all else. Athletes experience both sports-related and general health issues. Being in top physical form requires attention to basic health needs, including sleep, nutrition, stress management and proper training and recovery.
Many common diseases influence athletic performance, such as insulin resistance, diabetes, overtraining syndrome, eating disorders, hypothyroidism and hypogonadism. We offer many services, including risk assessment, medical and sports evaluations, stress adaptation assessment, cardiopulmonary screening, body composition, metabolic testing, injury prevention and treatment.
Our testing identifies strengths and limitations related to an individual’s athletic goals. We use the most accurate equipment and advanced interpretation possible to produce the most useful, reliable and valid results. Measurements include VO2max, HR max, Lactate Threshold, Aerobic Threshold, Maximal Power, VO2max Power, Threshold Power, Peak Lactate, Caloric expenditure, fat, carbohydrate and protein burning percentages and Resting Metabolic Rate. Daily nutrition plays a major role in the success of any athlete. When nutrition is optimal, power outputs are higher during training sessions for any given heart rate or perceived exertion range, leading to improvements in competition performance.
Athletes ideally focus on the quantity and composition of food, as well as timing of food and fluids related specifically to exercise. When athletic activity is supported nutritionally, injury risk decreases while muscle recovery and athletic performance increase. We identify common nutritional errors and offer simple solutions to optimize nutritional status.
